I spent Saturday afternoon with my gorgeous cousin (and favorite red head), Sydney. Syd and I have been planning a stylized shoot (coming soon!), but before that she wanted to know if I'd take a few of her with our grandpa's horse, Beaver. As many of you know, Grandpa just reciently passed. It was a shock to us all, and we all miss him dearly. Grandpa loved horses and was an avid rider. He ran thoroughbred race horses for years and enjoyed riding horses in his spare time. Sydney definitely inherited this from him! She is our "horse whisperer" - that's for sure! She and Grandpa road many miles together as she was growing up, and because of that they were very close. Ever since we heard the news of his passing, Sydney has spent a lot of her free time in his barn with these beautiful animals. She said she loves the smell of the barn! I always loved the smell of Grandpa's barn - the sweetness of the horse feed, the smell of leather, and, for her especially, the smell of the horses themselves. I'm not sure exactly how this works, but I'm sure our grandpa is smiling down on her watching her care for this horse. He would be so proud! Here are some highlights from her session... :)
My sweet baby girl turned 18 months old the end of September so I wanted to do a shoot to celebrate this milestone. It's hard to believe my baby isn't really a "baby" anymore but a toddler - she's independent, hardheaded (where the heck did she get that from? lol), but also so loving. Seriously though where has the time gone!? :)
It's hard to believe my gorgeous baby girl is already a year old!! This year has gone by so fast, but I have enjoyed getting to watch my sweet girl grow from a teeny tiny baby to an independent and (dare I say it?) TODDLER! Audrey is in to anything and everything she can get her little hands on! She loves going through drawers and baskets and rearranging. She loves music, reading stories with Mommy, watching Sesame Street, going outside to see her puppies, and playing in her ball pit. She is the most kind and loving child I have ever met, and she has her daddy and me wrapped around her little finger that's for sure! I love this little lady more than I ever thought possible, and I cannot imagine my life before she was in it. We were off on Spring Break this week so we got to take a few pictures (#photographerskidproblems lol). Here are some of my favorites! :)
This weekend, while the men in my family were busy working on my uncle's building, I decided to hop into the horse pen, camera in hand, and take some pictures of my cousin's houses. Yes I was playing with my camera again, surprise suprise ha! I don't normally post pictures like this to my website, but I know a beautiful little red head who I'm sure will want to see these! My cousin, Sydney, is a huge animal-lover, especially horses, and these lovely animals are hers. She enjoys riding horses with our grandpa and just being around these amazing creatures. :)
My gorgeous sister-in-law graduated from high school this weekend! When Kell and I first started dating, Kara was just in junior high so it seems crazy that she is old enough to be a high school graduate. Throughout the past four years that I've been a part of the Ragan crew, I have got to see Miss Kara grow up into the beautiful, funny, and sweet young woman she is today. Congratulations Kara Leigh and the rest of the HCSH Class of 2014! I wish you all the best as you begin this next chapter in your life! :)
For those of you who know my dad, you have either seen or heard about the famous ponies – my dad’s team of half lingers, George and Howard. For many years he wanted a team of half lingers, and just a few years ago he lucked out and had the opportunity to buy these two. You have no idea how excited he was – as he always says “dreams really do come true.” Since then almost every weekend, he and my grandpa can be found driving the ponies on the little route they travel. Such a simple thing, but it brings him so much joy! Plus you should see all the little kids watching excitedly as they go by – it’s a rare occasion in this day and age to see a horse drawn wagon that’s for sure! I think this is such a cool thing not only because I like that old stuff (which I do) but also because this is something Dad and Grandpa do together.
Last Friday I got to spend part of the afternoon hanging out with my dad, grandpa and of course George and Howard. The boys decided they were going to haul hay at my grandparent’s house with the half lingers just for fun! Dad was so excited and had a great time doing this – “this is the most fun I’ve ever had hauling hay,” he said! I can just imagine life at another time when everyone traveled this way or, looking back at pictures from Friday, farming with a team. Also with the way our old equipment looks and the way the boys dress (minus Kell's t-shirt lol), some of these pictures look like they were taken in another day and age which is soooo cool in itself!
While this is not a “session” as my other posts have been I wanted to share because it was so much fun and these pictures mean a lot to my family and me. I am so glad I could be a part of this, capturing pictures I know my dad and the rest of my family will cherish for many years to come. I am also happy to be able to spend time with these two wonderful men – they have always been there for me and have helped make me the person I am today. I love them very much!! :)
